Montgomery County, Virginia – The Montgomery County School Board deliberated on hate speech and the implementation of a new policy on the subject Tuesday evening.

Members of the school board discussed the significance of revising the policy to better safeguard their pupils.

“I am aware of what must be done in the event that a policy violation occurs. Dana Partin of District C stated, “I still feel like we’re kind of broad in the policy, and I know we’re kind of limited on that a little bit.”

To help alleviate the lack of school resource officers in the school division, the potential for retired law enforcement officers to serve as SROs was also discussed. According to board members, having officers with experience in schools would help to increase school safety.

However, doing so results in you hiring the experience. You’re getting someone who has 25 years of experience identifying when someone is receiving training on situational awareness and Fourth Amendment issues, after all.

Although the board says it intends to make a decision soon, the final decision regarding the retired officer’s policy was not made on Tuesday.

The board made changes before passing the hate speech policy.
