New Jersey man taken into custody for DUI and hit-and-run in an I-81 crash
Roanoke County, Virginia – According to the reports of the Virginia State Police, a 50-year-old man from New Jersey was taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident involving a tractor-trailer.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as 50-year-old Steven Lender from New Jersey.
According to the authorities, the collision took place on the bridge that connects I-581 and I-81. The collision caused damage to the bridge as well as other vehicles on the road.
According to the police, a tractor-trailer traveling northbound drove off the road and struck the bridge, which resulted in debris from the crash falling into the roadway below. Authorities say that the car was partially hanging off the bridge when the driver, whose name was Lender, ran away.
Police located Lander walking north on I-81 around mile marker 144.
