Health officials reported 5,972 new COVID-19 cases, 50 additional deaths
Virginia – As of Wednesday morning, Virginia health officials have reported 1,034,107 coronavirus cases and 15,224 virus-related fatalities, including 5,972 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases and 50 new confirmed and probable virus related deaths from around the state.
From the above mentioned cases and fatalities, 755,951 COVID-19 cases and 12,781 deaths are confirmed and 278,156 COVID-19 cases and 2,443 deaths are considered probable as of Wednesday, December 22.
The Virginia Department of Health also reported that the seven-day COVID-19 test positivity rate has risen from 9.7 percent to 10 percent in the last 24 hours.
As of Wednesday, health officials said they had received 40,071 total records of confirmed and suspected virus-related hospitalizations throughout Virginia, which is 136 more than the Virginia Department of Health reported on Tuesday, Dec. 21. This is the highest single-day increase in hospitalizations in the Commonwealth since September 18.
