Tips for fire safety are provided by Roanoke County Fire and Rescue

Roanoke, Virginia – A combustible being too close to a heat source was the cause of three house fires that the Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department responded to in a single week.
It is crucial to keep in mind a few safety precautions during this cold spell in order to avoid a fire.
“Anything that can burn must be kept at least three feet away from any auxiliary heat source, whether it be a wood stove or an electric space heater.”
The department’s coordinator for community outreach is Brian Clingenpeel. According to him, there is a widespread misconception regarding what constitutes a combustible.
“Anything that can burn is a combustible,” he stated. Paper, magazines, carpets, drapes, and your clothes are all examples. It’s actually just any household object.
Some fundamental safety precautions should be kept in mind when using space heaters in houses.
According to Clingenpeel, “an electric space heater must be plugged straight into the wall and should never be left unattended.” “Therefore, you must turn off your electric space heater before going to bed, or leave the room if you plan to leave.”
According to Clingenpeel, owning a smoke and carbon monoxide monitor is essential and can save your life during this cold spell.
