People in Virginia gather to lay Deputy Hunter Reedy to rest
Chilhowie, Virginia – On Saturday, a parking lot outside the Chilhowie Christian Church was packed with hundreds of cars. Attendees at Deputy Hunter Reedy’s funeral included law enforcement and members of the public from all across Virginia. Reedy was a hero in his town and throughout the Commonwealth.
People like Hunter are the cornerstone of our societies and the backbone of our commonwealth. The unsung heroes who defend us,” stated Jason Miyares, the attorney general of Virginia.
Hunter Reedy was one of two cops shot during a traffic stop in Marion a little more than a week ago.
The community he served has united to remember him and grieve his loss ever since the occurrence. On Saturday, however, the circle of lives he impacted grew significantly. Some traveled long distances to pay their respects, speak about the influence he had on their lives, and put him to rest.
“Hunter was a wonderful man and an excellent deputy. Smyth County Sheriff Chip Shuler stated, “He touched all of us and we were blessed to have him as a member of our sheriff’s office family.”
Many people loved and respected him, and the burial ceremony served as a way to honor and remember a guy who gave his life defending his neighborhood.
His brothers in blue, along with numerous others who are aware of the perils these daily heroes face, joined him.
The men and women who wear this insignia are frequently underappreciated. I could only talk about the brotherhood that exists here… Thank you for being a member of that fraternity, on behalf of a grateful commonwealth, Miyares remarked.
His brothers are now obligated by his legacy to carry on helping the community and paying respect to a brother who has passed away.
“I implore you to carry on serving us. Please keep assisting us, Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears stated. “Because no one else will pick up when we call.”
Surrounded by his loved ones, Deputy Hunter Reedy was laid to rest and had his final call. We shall never forget his legacy.
“To Hunter, Bravo, obedient and virtuous servant. Saying farewell to one of his most devoted deputies, Sheriff Shuler stated, “I will love you and I’ll remember you forever.”
