Vinton, Virginia – Vinton will soon see the opening of a new foster child housing complex.

Twelve apartments in the new $3.1 million housing complex will accommodate people between the ages of 17 and 21. Richmond, Virginia Beach, Roanoke, and Lynchburg are home to Impact Living Services’ facilities.

Impact Life Services’ Executive Director, Adam Pavao, claims that this inexpensive accommodation will assist individuals who are aging out in acclimating to independent life.

“Youth who age out of foster care have poor outcomes, such as a high rate of homelessness and a dearth of work prospects. Therefore, we want to ensure that the people of Vinton who are going through some of those things have a chance to succeed, and we want to be involved in that,” stated Pavao.

Over 20,000 teenagers who age out of the foster care system have difficulties when they enter adulthood, according to Impact Living.

It was a little difficult for me, mostly since I value my family so highly. And you leave a family system behind to be by yourself,” Q Jenkins remarked. At the age of sixteen, he was placed in foster care.

At the age of 21, he reported that moving from foster care to independent living presented numerous difficulties.

Jenkins said, “I know my mom passed away.” And all you could do at that point was keep going. You must continue to prosper. You need to give yourself some time. You must seek therapy, and you must persevere without giving up.

According to Pavao, having the support of the community allows them to forge outside connections that advance their careers and quality of life.

“We can establish support networks for these youth that offer work and career advancement opportunities, whether it be through internships, apprenticeships, or other similar programs.”

By the end of next year, the structure should be finished.
