Roanoke, Virginia – Several improvements to the Blue Ridge Parkway are expected to be finished before the end of the calendar year.

The National Park Service stated on Tuesday that work on the Roanoke River Bridge, which is near Explore Park at milepost 114.7, would be done by June.

Since May 20, 2021, a detour has been in place to avoid the aforementioned area.

The parkway has been blocked from milepost 121.4 at U.S. Route 220 down to milepost 135.9 at Adney Gap since severe rains washed away a 150-foot part of the road in May 2020, and it has been closed since.

It was anticipated that the repairs required to stabilize the slope failures around mileposts 1197 and 1279 would be completed by the end of September this year.
