Roanoke, Virginia – This year on May 1st, Roanoke welcomed the Kitty City Cat Café. Less than a century later, the café is commemorating its 100th cat rescue.

The proprietor of Kitty City Cat Café, LS Ackerman, founded the establishment with the intention of matching local adoptable cats with loving homes. She never imagined how quickly that desire would become a reality.

“I never imagined we’d reach 100 cats so quickly,” said Ackerman.

The Cat Café invited even more guests to attend a Cativersary Party in celebration of the milestone, where they could meet prospective new family members.

“Whenever we can match the perfect cat to the perfect person, it is a really, really magical feeling,” said Ackerman.

Ackerman is particularly touched by the 100th animal they are assisting because he is now the café’s shop cat.

“You would think I’d be immune to it since we have many, many cats coming through here. But sometimes you find the one that’s just special to you, and this is my special guy,” said Ackerman, holding her foster-failed kitty Butterbean.

Having welcomed several small ones, the café’s staff was motivated to save even more after saving 100 cats.

“We’re also celebrating the grand opening of our kitten camp, so as space exclusively for kittens during kitten season,” said Ackerman. “So that kittens can have a smaller and quieter and gentler space away from the bigger cats. And then during non-kitten season, it’ll just be kind of a quieter room for the cats who need a smaller quieter space,” she explained.

Kitty City Cat Café has many goals, one of which was to assist 100 cats. Ackerman hopes to save hundreds more cats in the future.

“I am so excited to just be a teeny tiny part of all of the good that’s happening here in Roanoke,” she said.

At the end of the year, the café wants to have 1,000 cats. Anyone interested in spending time with the kitties should make an appointment, according to Ackerman. You might take a new family member with you.
