Gas prices in Roanoke have decreased since this time last year, and they continue to be lower than the national average

Roanoke, Virginia – Based on the data provided by GasBuddy, the average cost of a gallon of petrol in Roanoke is around 37 cents lower than it was at this time last year.

Despite the fact that it has decreased by a sizeable amount, it is still the second-highest recorded average in the past ten years. The price of a gallon in the previous year was $3.84, which was the most since 2014.

In addition, Roanoke continues to have pricing that are lower than the average for the entire country. As of right now, the average price per gallon in Roanoke is $3.47, while the average price across the US is $3.73. Over the course of the last decade, Roanoke has maintained a price that is around 27.6 cents lower than the national average.

The average price in Roanoke was $1.93 on this date in 2016, which was even lower than the average price that was reported in July 2020 ($1.96). This was the lowest recorded average in Roanoke since 2014.

“We continue to see a mixed bag when it comes to gas prices across the country: states in the Great Lakes region are still being jolted by the Joliet, IL refinery outage, which has also impacted gas prices in some areas of Canada, while areas like the West Coast continue to see notable declines. With the summer winding down and GasBuddy data showing disappointing gasoline demand and struggling oil prices, we could eventually see the national average falling a bit more, especially once the refinery in Illinois restarts operations. While the hurricane season hasn’t been a factor yet, it’s also just starting to get into its prime, and that does remain a quiet wildcard for now,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy said.

When compared to the average price of petrol in Roanoke, the average price of gas in Virginia is $3.38, which is approximately 9 cents less.
