In their search for a superintendent, Lynchburg City Schools requests community input

Lynchburg, Virginia – Since previous Superintendent Dr. Crystal Edwards retired in October 2024, Lynchburg City Schools is looking for community input to aid in its search for a new superintendent.
Community people can share their thoughts on the experiences, qualities, and traits they think the new superintendent should have at a series of feedback sessions being held by the school board.
In order to find a successor, the school board first established an Ad Hoc Superintendent Search Committee. By holding community meetings, they seek to guarantee that the public has a voice in choosing the new leader.
Mark Tinsley, the search committee’s co-chair, stated that the committee’s choice is not just based on their own preferences. According to him, it’s equally important to know what the community wants from their next superintendent.
“We’re going to base our selection process on the input and comments provided by the public. As we interview and speak with these individuals, we will be searching for those common characteristics that people are seeking in the next superintendent. Therefore, we intend to make extensive use of the community’s feedback,” Tinsley stated.
The Lynchburg City School Board stated that, beginning on or before July 1, 2025, it is looking for a highly competent, trustworthy, and cooperative individual to manage the division with integrity and act as an advocate for public education.
“As I proceed, I’m searching for a capable leader with a history of successfully handling difficult circumstances and obstacles. In addition to the other requirements, a superintendent must meet,” Tinsley stated.
By the end of April, a new superintendent is expected to be selected.
Community meetings:
• Monday, Feb. 3 | 6:15-7:30 p.m. – Heritage High School (forum) – 3101 Wards Ferry Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502
• Tuesday, Feb. 4 | 7-8:30 p.m. – E. C. Glass High School (cafeteria) – 2111 Memorial Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501
• Wednesday, Feb. 5 | 6-7:30 p.m. – Sandusky Middle School (cafeteria) – 805 Chinook Place, Lynchburg, VA 24502
Using this poll, community members who are unable to attend these meetings can provide their opinions.
During stakeholder meetings, the Board will also ask important community partners and LCS employees for their opinions.
