Fries, Virginia – Following Hurricane Helene, the little Grayson County community of Fries was severely damaged by flooding, destruction, and power outages.

Governor Glenn Youngkin stated, “It was strong and brought a tremendous amount of rain and wind into the region, especially in Southwest, and we’ve seen Virginians who have lost everything.” “It’s extremely painful.”

After the destruction, locals are now attempting to rebuild their lives. One of the stops Gov. Youngkin made on Sunday while evaluating the damage in Southwest Virginia was Fries.

The Governor stated, “I think the most shocking thing is the damage, especially in the New River Valley where the water level was at a historic high.”

Fries continues to experience severe flooding and power outages. Youngkin is making an effort to reassure the locals that aiding the town is his top concern.

“We have teams working to restore electrical service, we have teams setting up makeshift cell towers, and we have generators being moved throughout the region to restart water supplies,” he stated. “We’re also transporting meals, water, and food supplies throughout the area.”

According to Governor Youngkin, it takes a village to recover from this kind of devastation, and he claims that Fries is demonstrating that kind of assistance.

“I want to express my pride in Virginians and how outstanding our first responders have been. He stated, “We had over 70 life-saving rescues, and heroes from all throughout the state came to support our local first responders. “I’m just incredibly appreciative of them all.”

The road to recovery is expected to be lengthy, according to officials. Any residents in need of assistance are urged to visit vaemergency.gov.
