Carilion Clinic reverts to pre-pandemic visitation policies
Roanoke, Virginia – As of Monday, May 23, all Carilion Clinic facilities will resume operating under the same visitation policies that were in place before the pandemic, with the exception of COVID-19 patients.
According to Michael Abbott, Pharm.D., senior vice president for hospital operations, “Having family and friends at the bedside is a huge benefit for our patients, and we’re excited to be able to offer that again. Safety of our staff and patients remains our top priority. Visitors will still be asked to mask, safety precautions like social distancing remain in place, and we will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 should we need to make future adjustments.”
It is strongly recommended that ill visitors stay away from patients. It is also strongly recommended that visitors not come to the facility if they are showing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with known or suspected COVID-19 during the last ten days. Before entering the facility, people are advised to read the instructions on the screening signs to make sure it is safe.
Patients who have been diagnosed or are suspected of having COVID-19 are still forbidden from having visitors. The only exceptions to this rule are end-of-life care, patients who are in labor, and patients for whom there is a medical necessity. Pediatric patients are allowed only two parents or guardians.
