Bedford County will proceed with expanding its industrial park and moving a well-liked disc golf course
Bedford County, Virginia – The New London Business & Technology Center in Bedford County is entering a new phase of development, and this expansion is attracting attention because it may have an effect on one of the county’s most well-liked disc golf courses.
For many years, the New London Business & Technology Center has been an important hub for both business and leisure. With a beloved course, it has also grown to be a hub for disc golf fans in recent years. But an expansion that would alter the area is being made possible by a recent $1.5 million state grant.
Robert Hiss, the Bedford County Administrator, stated, “Phase 2 has been envisioned for many years to expand the business-ready sites at New London.” That comprises grading and clearing two lots in preparation for future development, as well as building a road and putting in utilities on those graded lots.
The Virginia Business Ready Sites Program (VBRSP) of Governor Glenn Youngkin is the source of this additional financing, which will help prepare more property for industrial use in Bedford County in an effort to draw in new companies and generate employment.
What does this signify, though, for the well-liked disc golf course? Hiss promised that the course will be moved rather than cancelled.
Hiss declared, “They won’t be eliminated.” “They will either be moved to other utility easements or, more likely, some holes will be developed in a 30- to 35-acre portion of the property.”
Long before the disc golf course was constructed, the county had been planning this stage of development with the goal of increasing the number of business-ready locations to draw in new industries. The additional London Tech Disc Golf Course will have six or seven of its holes changed as part of its development to create room for the additional industrial sites. The course will reposition these holes in different locations.
Hiss declared, “We don’t want to see that investment go to waste. We don’t want it to go away.” Thus, once more, one of our objectives is to move those holes while maintaining a professional course. We also want this to continue since we have invested time, money, and effort in it.
By the end of 2025, the property is intended to be ready for business use and building, and work is anticipated to begin early in the following year.
