Names released of officers involved in domestic disturbance shooting

Roanoke, Virginia – The names of the officers engaged in a shooting on Thursday morning have been made public by the Roanoke Police Department.

At 12:53 in the morning, according to the police, they were called to a domestic disturbance at an apartment in the 700 block of 29th St. NW.

According to police, they found a male inside the flat who was still carrying a knife and a woman outside the building who was suffering from a stabbing wound.

The man was ordered to put down his firearm, but he refused, according to the police. The man then moved to confront the authorities, and they tased him. The man was shot and killed as he approached the cops.

The suspect’s name has not been made public; authorities say he was 26 years old.

After being brought to a hospital, the woman received care and was later discharged. Police report that no policemen were hurt during the incident.

Officers D. Gilliam (almost two years’ service), R. Germ (two years’ service), A. Longenecker (nearly two years’ service), T. Buquor (five years’ service), and Sergeant T. Landes (ten years’ service) are among the officers.

While the Virginia State Police conduct an investigation into the shooting, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave.
