Buena Vista Labor Day Celebration encourages Virginians to vote this November
Buena Vista, Virginia – For many years, Buena Vista’s annual Labor Day celebration has been regarded as the unofficial start of the political campaign season. Voters from all over Virginia flocked to Rockbridge County to hear from candidates.
There was a clear political split in the crowd, as there is throughout most of the nation. One section of the audience cheered “USA!” and chanted “We won’t go back” during Governor Glenn Youngkin’s remarks. The governor made note of the division in his address endorsing former President Donald J. Trump’s presidential campaign because it was so obvious.
The issues in this election are common sense and a fractured America. Governor Youngkin stated, “And the truth is that we have witnessed weakness in Washington and the White House over the last three and a half years.”
The audience continued to boo and cheer at that.
Notwithstanding the evident rift in the audience, both parties concurred that this is a crucial chance for voters.
Attendee Jennifer Lewis from Waynesboro stated, “I think it’s really important for voters to be engaged and informed, and there’s no better way to inform yourself than coming here and hearing the candidates speak directly, and then being able to make up your mind on who you want to vote for.”
We don’t all share the same opinions, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get together and discuss them, according to Ryan Seamen. It’s about individuals coming together and sharing their viewpoints.
According to Senator Tim Kaine, Labor Day marks the beginning of the last stretch of the election season and one of the last opportunities for candidates to speak with Virginian voters in person.
Senator Tim Kaine stated, “Having both teams on the same platform, and a Republican Governor, the Democratic senator.” “I like events like this where you know there’s some good-natured competition, but it stays good-natured. These are good events and there are not many of them these days.”
Kaine is a candidate for reelection. Hung Cao, a Republican who is his opponent, participated in the Buena Vista parade but refrained from speaking afterward.
In Virginia, early voting starts on September 20.
