Tornado damage to at least thirty residences in Caroline County with winds of up to 110 mph

Caroline County, Virginia – The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that a tornado with winds believed to have reached 110 mph on Thursday night damaged at least ten residences in Caroline County.

On Thursday evening, August 8, the NWS issued a tornado warning for the Caroline area. According to preliminary storm reports, there may have been a tornado that originated in the Lake Caroline community and proceeded to the adjacent Cedar Fork Road.

Following the arrival of its surveyors in the area on Friday, the NWS released additional information. The tornado’s winds were estimated to have reached between 100 and 100 mph when it was confirmed.

At least ten residences were damaged, according to the NWS’s initial storm report from Thursday night, and numerous trees were toppled in the vicinity. The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office informed on Friday that they currently estimated there to be at least 30 damaged residences.

Residents of Lake Caroline and the surrounding region of the destruction sent in multiple images. These images display downed power lines, trees and branches in the roadway, and damaged automobiles.

The surveyors from the NWS are still investigating the extent of this damage. They will be able to deliver a more thorough report as they gain more knowledge.

Regardless of what more comes to light, the region was hit hard by severe weather during Tropical Storm Debby, according to both NWS reports and the photographs that were received.
