Roanoke, Virginia – The Northwest Roanoke community is being invited by Points of Diversity of Roanoke Valley to discuss shared concerns and offer resources.

Central Baptist Church, located at 1502 Staunton Ave NW, is hosting a free community supper for Hanover Avenue residents on Saturday, November 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. Dinner will consist of garlic bread, spaghetti with salad, and dessert.

The purpose of the event is to provide the community a chance to build relationships, offer useful resources, and deal with the significant problem of neighborhood violence.

In addition to representatives from local organizations that support mental health, food insecurity, employment, and other social services, attendees will hear from speaker Kathryn Bell from the Hanover Avenue Neighborhood.

The president of Points of Diversity, Katie Zawacki, states, “We acknowledge the difficulties the Hanover community faces, especially the increase in gun violence.” “This dinner is a chance for locals of all ages to get together, eat together, and have productive conversations about the neighborhood’s needs.”

The dinner’s objective is to talk about the residents’ worries, such as their dread of gun violence forcing elderly people from their homes.

Community volunteers will use a door-to-door strategy to solicit support from locals before the end of 2024.
