Roanoke River Gorge
Located at Milepost 114.9 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the view of the Roanoke River Gorge while standing atop the bridge is one of the most stunning scenes in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. You can park in the lot at the Roanoke River Overlook on the south side of the river and make the short walk out onto the Parkway bridge, though the walk will make you a little queasy if you’re afraid of heights.
Another fantastic adventure is to paddle through the Roanoke River Gorge and make your way down the river to Explore Park, which features miles of trails for hiking & biking, an aerial adventure course, and cabins & camping for overnight lodging.
