Man dies at a Roanoke hospital due to injuries sustained in a physical fight

Roanoke, Virginia – After a fight on Sunday evening in the 1700 block of Melrose Avenue NW, a man was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he later passed away.
Police in Roanoke said they discovered an unconscious man laying on the ground when they went to a call about a person down at about 11 p.m. Roanoke Fire-EMS rushed him to the hospital so that he could get medical treatment.
Following additional investigation, it was discovered that he had been engaged in a violent altercation with another individual who was found by the police at the scene. He was brought in for questioning by the detectives at the station. It was determined that a verbal argument led to a physical fight.
Police said this was an isolated incident and the two men involved were acquaintances.
The man succumbed to his injuries later in the hospital.
At this time, there have been no charges brought regarding this incident.
