Salem, Virginia – Residents in our communities marked the beginning of the holiday season on Friday with joyful celebrations. Holiday events took place in Blacksburg, Roanoke, and Salem.

Salem celebrated its yearly tree lighting ceremony and festive holiday parade. Downtown Salem buzzed with activity as crowds embraced the chilly weather to immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere.

“We’ve been attending since we were very young.” Maggie Painter shared, “Our dad has been taking us to this same parking lot for many years,” as she enjoyed the parade alongside her sister Grace and their father. “The parade is incredibly enjoyable; I love watching all the bands. As fellow band members, we find it to be a great time.” This is the top choice; it radiates the best energy.

Attendees of the parade expressed their favorite aspects of the event.

“I attend annually; it’s simply enjoyable, a festive activity to engage in before Christmas,” remarked Lilly Trail. “I enjoy seeing everyone, and I love to see the dogs dressed in Christmas outfits.”

Evan and Finn Hensley, brothers, experienced the parade for the very first time.

“It seems that in many parades, they typically throw candy.” “That’s likely the reason my mom said no more candy,” Fin remarked. “I have some friends who will be attending the parade, and that’s the main reason I’m here,” Evan stated.

On Friday night, the town of Blacksburg held its own festive celebration with a Christmas parade.
