Female bicyclist dead after being struck by vehicle along Route 11

Botetourt County, Virginia – A bicyclist from Fincastle was murdered after she was struck by a car while riding along Route 11 on a Friday afternoon.
Following an investigation by the Virginia State Police, it was determined that the driver of a 2014 Dodge Journey struck Tabitha Leigh Thompson, 39, when both were heading south on Lee Highway, about a quarter of a mile south of Darby Road.
Thompson was brought to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she passed just a few hours later.
The driver of the Dodge, Danielle M. Rock, remained uninjured and has been charged with reckless driving.
