‘Drone’ sightings reported across southwest Virginia

Roanoke, Virginia – On Friday, social media was inundated with images and accounts of what numerous individuals suspect to be drone sightings in southwest Virginia.

Multiple reports and messages have been received from individuals claiming to have spotted them in Roanoke, Pulaski, Radford, Salem, Vinton, Floyd, Danville, and Fincastle.

The identity of those controlling the devices, their origin, and whether they are indeed drones is still uncertain.

Candace Poling captured images from her land located roughly three miles from Fincastle. Videos were shared on the social media platform Reddit, depicting individuals soaring above Blacksburg.

Numerous individuals took to social media to report sightings of as many as eight objects soaring above neighborhoods in Roanoke.

Local law enforcement agencies have stated that they have not received any formal reports concerning the sightings.

Reports of drone sightings have emerged from New York City, Denver, and Pennsylvania.
Authorities are currently investigating reports of unidentified drones seen flying over New Jersey.

According to CBS News, federal authorities have indicated that they do not consider the drones to have any “foreign nexus” or present any threat. New York and New Jersey lawmakers have raised alarms regarding the proximity of drones to military installations.
