A short film pays tribute to a West Virginia teenager who lost a battle with cancer
Hot Springs, Virginia – On Monday night, a short film inspired by a 15-year-old from Union, West Virginia, made its debut.
Aimee Baker’s creativity was vividly showcased at the Omni Homestead in Hot Springs. Baker succumbed to brain cancer in the fall, and her family now aims to channel her creativity to inspire others in their fight against cancer.
“Seeing everyone come together for this cause is truly a blessing, especially with the support directed towards battling cancer. There is a significant lack of funding for childhood cancer research,” stated Todd Baker, Aimee’s father. “According to her oncologist in Morgantown, West Virginia, it was noted that a mere 7% of the total funding allocated for cancer research is directed towards childhood cancer research.”
Aimee collaborated with James Orrigo on the Big Dreams Virtual Tour, a program by the Children’s Cancer Research Fund that helps children fighting cancer by producing cartoon music videos, prior to her passing. Aimee produced a video and song featuring a showdown between muffins and cupcakes, and the program chose to animate it.
“We began collaborating with amazing artists from all over the nation, who were creating life-sized props. The Omni Homestead graciously allowed us to utilize their stunning location for an incredible, cinematic showdown featuring muffins and cupcakes. “It was beautiful; the entire staff participated, and it truly brought immense joy not only to Aimee’s family but also helps to preserve Aimee’s legacy in a uniquely special manner,” stated James Orrigo, Creator of the Big Dreams Virtual Tour.
Marina Toybina, an Emmy-winning costume designer, took the initiative to create and donate the masks for the film.
Aimee was initially set to take on a leading role in the film. She died three days prior to the filming of the video, yet her family and friends chose to complete it as a tribute to her memory.
“There was some uncertainty, but the family was resolute, stating, ‘No, we want to do this for Amiee.’” We are fully committed to making this an event she would have adored, and we’re going to put in our utmost effort. Orrigo remarked, “Her brother truly embraced the role of the main character, putting in his absolute best effort, and it was simply stunning.”
On Monday night, Amiee’s family had the opportunity to view the completed film ‘Sweet Revenge’ for the very first time.
“It was truly impressive; witnessing it was remarkable, as it vividly reflected Aimee’s vision coming to fruition.” “She would have truly cherished witnessing this, but it all originated from her imagination,” stated Todd Baker.
All footage was captured in just one day at the Omni Homestead.
“We filmed the whole thing for eight hours, and I felt like I was in a blur.” James didn’t just present the script and outline the plan; he was genuinely receptive to suggestions. Aimee’s brother Ean, who appeared in the film, remarked, “It was really a collective effort with many individuals contributing.”
Aimee was remembered by her friends and family as a radiant presence.
“She embodied courage, joy, and faithfulness.” “Her love for the Lord radiated through every aspect of her life,” remarked Todd Baker.
The family expressed their gratitude for the film made in her honor.
Ean Baker expressed his gratitude, stating, “I’m really thankful for everything, especially James; he’s just a really cool person.” “He possesses an incredible amount of energy, which he dedicates entirely to assisting and caring for others,” remarked Todd Baker.
