A fresh trial for a former sheriff’s major convicted of child sex crimes was denied
Franklin County, Virginia – According to court documents, Justin Sigmon, a former Franklin County sheriff’s major, was found guilty on November 17, 2023, of abusive sexual contact with a juvenile and was not granted a new trial.
Following a videotaped encounter with a young girl, 47-year-old Sigmon was charged by the FBI with abusive sexual contact of a minor.
The event occurred while Sigmon and his family were on a Carnival Cruise Line ship that sailed from the Port of Miami, according to court filings from the District Court of Southern Florida.
Following his arrest, Sigmon resigned from his post.
He was denied a new trial and will be sentenced on Tuesday, December 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. U.S. Courthouse in Miami, Florida.
