Roanoke, Virginia – Soon, people will be allowed to sit outside and drink alcoholic drinks in certain parts of downtown Roanoke.
Beginning on June 10, people over the age of 21 will be permitted to walk around the Summer Refreshment Zone in downtown Roanoke with an alcoholic beverage that they purchased from one of the participating businesses: Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint, Cabo Fish Taco, Benny Marconi’s, Alejandro’s Mexican Grill, Forks in the Market, Shishka Mediterranean Grill and Hookah Bar, Caribbica Soul, Three Notch’d Craft Kitchen and Brewery, Table 50, Wok N Roll Kitchen, and Cedars Lebanese Restaurant.
Up until July 31, people will be able to drink in public in the designated area on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
It is required that the beverage be contained in a cup with a label that indicates where it was obtained and that the cup be disposed of in the appropriate manner within the specified area.
The zone begins at the parking garage for the Center in the Square on Campbell Avenue, continues to Williamson Road, and then runs to Market Street from Salem Avenue to Church Avenue and Wall Street from Salem Avenue to Campbell Avenue.
Before entering another bar or restaurant that serves alcohol as well, customers are requested to get rid of their beverages.
