Plastic bags to be charged five cents in Roanoke
Roanoke, Virginia – People who shop in the City of Roanoke would have to pay a plastic bag tax starting in 2022.
Every time the customer uses a plastic bag, they will be charged five cents. Grocery stores, medicine stores, and certain convenience stores will be affected by the tax.
The income from the tax will be used to clean up the city’s environment and provide educational initiatives to help people reduce garbage.
It is expected that customers would carry their own bags when they go shopping.
