Salem, Virginia – Strongman National Championship athletes will come from all across the country to compete. On the 15th and 16th of October, the tournament will be place in the Salem Civic Center.

This weekend, Bryan Beaune of Michigan and Tommy Burns of California will participate in six separate competitions. The tournament will be split into two days, with each day consisting of three events. The max log press, sandbag toss, wheelbarrow race, and axel clean and press are among the events.

For men and women, there are several weight classes to compete in. Anyone is welcome to come out and watch the athletes, and the organizers noted that this is a family-friendly event.

“There is a family environment. Everybody is loving on each other, and it is just great fun competition. There is no better place to bring your kid. My son was raised in it. He did his first Strongman competition when he was 14. The environment and the people are amazing,” Bryan Beaune said.

Beaune is looking forward to watch his one friend participate in the log press and see how much weight he can carry. Athletes will be putting their strength to the test as well as developing relationships during the competition.

Athletes said they’re enjoying the community that the sports create while competing.

They said the support system provided by the other athletes is unlike anything they’ve ever seen.

At the tournaments, participants will be cheering each other on and sharing advice on how to improve.

“It is not just about this meathead jock type of energy feel. It is literally about competition and collaboration at the same time. I have never experienced this anywhere else except in the sport of strong man and that competition,” Tommy Burns said.

The national tournament, according to Tommy, is similar to the Super Bowl of the sport, although there are other events for people of all weight classes.
