5 people injured after collapse of a pedestrian bridge

Washington, D.C. – Five people were hospitalized following the collapse of a pedestrian bridge collapsed onto I-295 in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.
Both directions of DC-295 before Polk Street Northeast were blocked to traffic due to the collapse.
According to investigators, a truck struck in the bridge caused it to collapse. Five people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after the crash.
The bridge was inspected in February by officials and there were no reports of structural concerns.
The collapse remains under investigation.
