Virginia sees 1,011 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 29,683 statewide

RICHMOND, Va. – There are now 29,683 cases of the coronavirus in Virginia as of May 16.

Saturday’s total of 29,683 cases marks and increase from Friday’s total of 28,672 cases, 27,813 on Thursday, 26,746 on Wednesday 25,800 on Tuesday, 25,070 on Monday and 24,081 on Sunday.

Here’s a breakdown of the 1,011 new cases in Virginia:

• 227 new cases in Fairfax County
• 142 new cases in Prince William County
• 76 new cases in Richmond City
• 64 new cases in Alexandria City
• 56 new cases in Loudoun County
• 45 new cases in Buckingham County
• 41 new cases in Manassas City
• 32 new cases in Chesterfield County
• 28 new cases in Henrico County
• 26 new cases in Arlington County
• 22 new cases in Culpeper County
• 20 new cases in Accomack County
• 16 new cases in Stafford County
• 14 new cases in Frederick County
• 13 new cases each in Sussex County, Spotsylvania County, Page County
• 12 new cases each in Shenandoah County and Mecklenburg County
• 11 new cases each in Harrisonburg and Galax
• 9 new cases in Augusta County
• 7 new cases each in Hanover County, Manassas Park, and Fredericksburg
• 6 new cases in Fauquier County
• 5 new cases each in Suffolk, Pittsylvania County and Cumberland County
• 4 new cases each in Virginia Beach and Henry County
• 3 new cases each in Northampton County, Newport News, Albemarle County, Carroll County, Portsmouth, Greene County and Richmond County
• 2 new cases each in Warren County, Colonial Heights, Amherst County, Orange County, Falls Church, King George County, Clarke County, Northumberland County, Fluvanna County and Russell County
• 1 new case each in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Winchester, Essex County, Fairfax City, Grayson County, Rappahannock County, King William County, Prince Edward County, Wythe County, Madison County, Roanoke County, Danville, Goochland County, Williamsburg City, Amelia County, Martinsville, Middlesex County and Rockbridge County
• Staunton and Rockingham County are both reporting 1 fewer case. The Virginia Department of Health has previously told 10 News that, numbers on the website are preliminary, and changes of this nature are due to inaccurate residency information that was later corrected.

As of Saturday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 205,249 testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1.
