The Roanoke Sheriff’s Office starts a program that offers the locals “Christmas in July”
Roanoke, Virginia – The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office is hoping to spread some early holiday cheer by announcing the debut of its ‘Santa on Patrol’ project during a press conference on Saturday, July 13. The event took place on the 13th of July.
The event is centered on the community and aims to bring joy and support to the community by presenting “Christmas in July.” Additionally, it is a collaboration with Kroger to assist 25 individuals or families in the neighborhood. It is the aim of the sheriff’s office that the initiative will have a significant impact and bring smiles on the faces of those who are in the most need of them.
“One thing we talk about in District Two and Kroger Mid-Atlantic is we’re fired up to win every day,” said Kroger District Manager Billy Milton. “We’re fired up to win for our associates, we’re fired up to win for our customers and we’re fired up to win for the communities we serve.”
The launch of the program includes a special ceremony, allowing the community to nominate ten deserving individuals or families. Community members are invited to submit names of people they believe are deserving of this recognition and support.
Throughout the course of the month, recipients will be chosen at random and given gift cards to Kroger worth one hundred dollars.
“On behalf of my office, the executive office of Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office, and my amazing team. Thank you for always being a part of this amazing initiative,” said Roanoke Sheriff Antonio Hash. “We do it better when we do it together. Thank you.”
As part of the launch that takes place on Saturday, personnel of the sheriff’s department and Santa Claus will go door-to-door to surprise the nominees for the award as well as several other individuals who are located at the Envision Center. It was also possible to shoot gift cards out of a t-shirt cannon, which was presented to three lucky winners.
“Everyone goes through a struggling point in their life and I’m one of them,” said Gail Andrews, one of the nominated award winners. “This helps me out a lot at this point in my life right now”
On July 10, nominations for gift cards will be accepted, and they will continue to be accepted until July 15. Calling 540-853-1766 or sending an email to Kala.Gilbert@roanokeva.gov are both acceptable ways to submit nominations.
