The RCPS School Board will decide on recommendations for transportation
Roanoke, Virginia – Proposed transportation choices for the upcoming school year are scheduled for voting by the Roanoke City Public Schools School Board.
Tuesday night’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 and will be broadcast live on the Roanoke City Public Schools Facebook page.
The school board is thinking about three alternatives.
The first one involves rearranging the schedule, realigning the geography, creating zones for walking and family responsibilities, altering the after-school transportation system to go outside of the zone, and providing alternate routes for STEAM, PLATO, and Noel C. Taylor Learning Academy.
All of those items are included in the second choice; the schedule adjustments are not. In the event that board members choose this course of action, the present tier times will not change.
The third option does not include the rearrangement of the geographic schedule.
If accepted, the bell schedules included in the first choice will be one of the largest adjustments for families and kids.
This would ideally be the greatest approach to get all students to and from school on time. According to the district, between 800 and 1,300 pupils are currently late every day.
Following public comment, all of these possibilities are being evaluated.
