The Melrose Market in Northwest Roanoke opens
Roanoke, Virginia – On Melrose Wednesday, a long-awaited grocery shop in Northwest Roanoke will hold a grand opening ceremony to welcome customers.
The goal of Market on Melrose, which has been in development for more than a year, is to alleviate food insecurity in the food desert in Northwest Roanoke.
At 10 a.m., the ribbon was cut to kick off the grand opening, and the first 100 customers were given presents.
With a focus on wholesome and reasonably priced selections, the 15,000-square-foot market provides a large selection of fresh vegetables, meats, dairy products, and pantry essentials. Food insecurity should be addressed first, according to Amanda Napier, director of business services, as Melrose Plaza works to give solutions to end poverty.
This is really important to us. This initiative has special meaning for us, and we are genuinely thrilled to introduce this kind of establishment to this area, which has been a food desert for more than 40 years. Having fresh vegetables and items is excellent, and it’s convenient for the neighborhood and the surrounding to acquire what they need at a full-service grocery store,” Napier said.
On Saturday, there will be a Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., the market will be open.
The Melrose Plaza project is at its initial stage. The Excel Center, Wellness on Melrose, and the Bank of Botetourt branch are anticipated to open in the spring, after the plaza lobby.
