The baby pygmy’s name at the Metro Richmond Zoo has been revealed
Chesterfield, Virginia – The Metro Richmond Zoo has announced the name of a newborn pygmy that was born earlier this month!
Poppy is the name given to the pygmy hippo.
On Monday morning, the Today Show made the announcement.
According to the zoo’s website, the kid was born at 4:50 p.m. on December 9 following a 7-month gestation.
According to the zoo, this is the second calf just before the holidays and the third from the pygmy hippo parents, Iris and Corwin.
“We feel fortunate to have received two hippopotamuses over the years, as most people don’t receive one for Christmas at all,” Metro Richmond Zoo stated.
The infant weighed fifteen pounds. According to the zoo, mature pygmy hippos can reach a weight of 600 pounds.
According to the zoo, there are less than 2,500 pygmy hippos in the wild, making them endangered.
