More than $2 million to be used for youth employment training and education

Roanoke, Virginia – Senators Mark R. Warner and Senator Tim Kaine have announced on Friday that $2,699,000 from YouthBuild grant program will be used for employment training and education for at-risk youth Virginians.

“These dollars will provide additional resources for at-risk young Virginians and help put them on a path toward successful careers. These federal investments in community-based job programs will be crucial to our country’s economic recovery,” the Senators said.

The funding will be distributed as follows:

  • Goodwill Industries of the Valleys in Roanoke – $1,199,000
  • New River-Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Area Consortiumb in Radford- $1,500,000

YouthBuild program offers work training and education for youth population from 16 to 24 who dropped out from high school. These young American, as part of the program, will spend time on job training and in the classroom, earning high school diplomas or equivalency degrees and preparing for post-secondary training options.

More than 6,000 youth from 40 states are included in this program annualy.
