Man caught with loaded weapon at Roanoke airport
Roanoke, Virginia – According to the TSA, a loaded.45-caliber gun was discovered in a Roanoke man’s carry-on luggage at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport on Saturday.
According to a Monday news release in connection with the incident, TSA workers discovered the pistol and promptly notified airport police, who confiscated the weapon and cited the man with weapons charges.
According to the TSA, the gun was loaded with six bullets when it was confiscated.
This is the third time this year that a firearm has been discovered at a TSA checkpoint at Roanoke’s airport.
People can fly with firearms in checked luggage as long as they are properly packed, unloaded, stored separately from ammunition, and declared at the airline ticket counter.
According to the TSA website, the fee for having a loaded firearm at an airport varies from $3,000 to $10,000, plus a criminal referral.
