Fourth annual Lynchburg 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Challenge
Lynchburg, Virginia – climbing steps in remembrance of the military personnel who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Local law enforcement agencies and the community came together in Lynchburg for the fourth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Challenge.
They ascended Monument Terrace’s stairs fourteen times or 110 stories.
The CEO of the Freedom Defense Group, Elisha McGee, stated that this event serves to bring the community together in recognition.
“It’s just an incredible opportunity to be able to come together as a community and really honor those people who died that day and then also be able to continue the tradition of remembering that day,” McGee said.
Although it may seem challenging at times, McGee stated that it is nothing compared to the sorrow that people experienced on September 11, 2001.
You will eventually reach a point where things are really taxing, challenging, and difficult. However, it’s a lovely, sunny day today. Both the smoke and the deaths of those nearby are absent from your surroundings. People aren’t leaping out of windows and you’re not ascending crumbling staircases. Simply put, it’s a really humble experience.
According to McGee, she is appreciative that people came out and hopes that even more would do so the following year.
“Every year, more individuals from all walks of life, including young and old, businesspeople, students, and firefighters, attend. I hope the number of people keeps rising,” McGee remarked.
