Fatal accident in Amherst County under investigation
Amherst County, Virginia – A fatal accident in Amherst County is being investigated by the Virginia State Police.
Around 6 a.m., State troopers responded to a report of a woman killed in an accident at Rt. 29 Bypass near the Galts Mill Rd.
According to authorities, the woman is taken for autopsy, examination and identification to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke.
As of this morning, the north and southbound lanes of the Rt. 29 Bypass are closed to traffic.
Drivers are asked to find alternate routes.
Anyone who has any information to share, or has seen a woman walking on the Rt. 29 Bypass around 6 a.m. is asked to call 434-352-7128 or sent an email at questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
