Roanoke, Virginia – The city became green as thousands of people flocked to downtown Roanoke for the Shamrock Festival and St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Thousands of people, some of whom were celebrating their first St. Patrick’s Day there, donned green attire and made their way to the center of Star City.

“We’ve been here several years in a row. We love this for Roanoke City. It’s good for the people that get out and commune with each other. We love it,” festivalgoers said.

The kids were most eager to get a bit afraid, but the day began with the traditional procession, where there was something for everyone.

“Clowns. Lots of creepy clowns,” the kids said.

That wasn’t the end of the fun. The streets were kept closed after the parade so that people could enjoy the music, get a drink, and eat some delicious food. Mike Williams stated that he observes the same holiday each year.

“Listening to the music and having a beer or two,” Williams said.

Previously required to work during the festival, Jaret Butenschoen was ecstatic to visit and take in downtown offerings this year.
