Dead body found in Alleghany County believed to be a missing man
Alleghany County, Virginia – Alleghany County officials think that the dead body found on Sunday might belong to the man who was reported missing ten days earlier.
The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office says that the last time anyone saw the 31-year-old Matthew Walton was on July 27. He was walking near Longdale Furnace Road and Circle H Lane in Clifton Forge.
The sheriff’s office said on Facebook that the corpse was discovered on Sunday in the vicinity of where Walton was last seen on July 27 and that it matched his general description.
The medical examiner’s office in Roanoke will conduct an autopsy and provide an official identification.
So far, the investigation indicates that foul play did not play a role.
Anyone who may have information is urged to contact the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office at 540-965-1770.
