City leaders seek community’s help to put an end to gun violence

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke is recovering from a series of gun-related incidents that occurred over the past week. The violence has enraged city officials, who have expressed frustration and anger.
Instead of communicating during conflict, Roanoke residents are eager to choose a gun.
“We are asking people to put down their guns if they have an issue or a conflict and find a way to talk with each other,” councilman Joe Cobb said.
So far this year, there were 24 acts of gun violence.
In collaboration with the city’s gun violence task force, neighbourhood organizations will receive money to support efforts aimed at reducing violence.
“Hopefully- give them a pathway hope and possibility that let’s them see beyond today,” Cobb said.
Despite the disappointment, anger and frustration, Mayor Sherman Lea said they will keep up the good work.
