Roanoke, Virginia – The influential artist Alphonse Mucha’s work will be on display in a new exhibition that the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke is getting ready to unveil.

Mucha, who is regarded as the founder of Art Nouveau, was a pioneer, and this show is also making history.

We went to the Taubman Museum of Art earlier this week, and the tools were out. The crew there was finishing up details for a cutting-edge exhibition that blends real artwork with an online homage to Alphonse Mucha’s output.

“Our guest will have the opportunity to travel back in time,” stated Cindy Petersen, executive director of the Taubman Museum of Art.

“Eternally New: The Art Nouveau World of Alphonse Mucha” was curated by Petersen. Additionally, she gave us a tour of the museum when we were there.

Although Mucha was born in Czechoslovakia, he rose to prominence as a key figure in the Art Nouveau movement of painting and building in Paris.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond is lending artwork for the show, along with historical items from other local collections. Additionally, an immersive art experience designed for the Grand Palais in Paris will be shared by the Roanoke Museum for the first time in the United States.

“We have a 1925 Amilcar, a penny farthing bicycle, period apparel, couture gowns, and jewels arriving. We’re also fusing it with those real Alphonse Mucha artworks, with many immersive experiences. There are numerous interactive stations, according to Petersen.

On Saturday, the Taubman Museum is hosting a street party and opening celebration.

The entry-level display will be open until the middle of March of the following year.
