Ahead of the extremely cold conditions, Clifton Forge reopens its warming centers

Roanoke, Virginia – Two warming facilities at Clifton Forge will reopen in front of the bitterly cold weather.
Due to dangerously low temperatures and wind chills, an extreme cold watch has been issued for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
If precautions are not followed, the frigid wind chills, which might drop as low as 15 degrees below zero, could cause frostbite or hypothermia. Exposure of unprotected skin to these temperatures will result in hypothermia and frostbite. Water pipes may burst after a prolonged period of frigid weather.
In response to the chilly weather, the Town of Clifton Forge will offer the Clifton Forge Volunteer Rescue Squad at 1610 Hickory Ave. and the Clifton Forge Firehouse at 701 Church Street to anyone in need of heat. From Sunday, January 19 through Friday, January 24, both sites will be open.
For help getting to either of these sites, contact the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 965-1770, extension 0.
