Man arrested after chase and shooting at police
Salem, Virginia – One man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after being chased and shooting at police.
Elliston Food Mart reported a man was threatening workers with a weapon to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The man reportedly left the shop and drove towards Christiansburg.
Christiansburg Police tried to stop him there, but he continued driving and pointed a gun at a police officer. They were chasing the man across several towns and were able to take him into custody after crashing in downtown Salem.
According to the police, the man was shooting at the police from the vehicle during the chase. Police officers did not responded with shooting, and none of them was injured.
The driver was taken for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash to a local hospital in Salem.
The identity of the man has not been revealed.
Christiansburg Police were assisted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Police Department and Virginia State Police.
