3,817 new COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths confirmed in Virginia
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 3,817 new COVID-19 cases and eight new virus-related deaths as of Monday morning, bringing the total coronavirus count up to 258,870 confirmed and probable cases and 4,208 confirmed and probable fatalities around the Commonwealth.
Virginia health officials confirmed 226,426 cases and 3,829 deaths are related to the virus as of Monday, Dec. 7. However, 32,444 cases and 379 deaths are still reported as “probable.”
According to VDH’s Monday report, more than 35,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:
- Alleghany County: 387 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 15 deaths
- Amherst County: 912 cases, 34 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
- Appomattox County: 444 cases, 28 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
- Bath County: 77 cases and 1 hospitalization
- Bedford County: 2,059 cases, 83 hospitalizations, and 23 deaths
- Bland County: 254 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
- Botetourt County: 854 cases, 34 hospitalizations, and 13 deaths
- Buena Vista: 350 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and 1 death
- Campbell County: 1,312 cases, 42 hospitalizations, and 13 deaths
- Carroll County: 1,102 cases, 75 hospitalizations, and 30 deaths
- Charlotte County: 294 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
- Covington: 198 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
- Craig County: 97 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
- Danville: 1,790 cases, 154 hospitalizations, and 51 deaths
- Floyd County: 388 cases, 17 hospitalizations, and 16 deaths
- Franklin County: 1,774 cases, 61 hospitalizations, and 17 deaths
- Galax: 619 cases, 48 hospitalizations, and 30 deaths
- Giles County: 356 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 1 death
- Grayson County: 587 cases, 44 hospitalizations, and 22 deaths
- Halifax County: 883 cases, 22 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths
- Henry County: 2,058 cases, 182 hospitalizations, and 41 deaths
- Highland County: 26 cases
- Lexington: 410 cases, 10 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
- Lynchburg: 3,002 cases, 88 hospitalizations, and 37 deaths
- Martinsville: 774 cases, 80 hospitalizations, and 25 deaths
- Montgomery County: 4,154 cases, 74 hospitalizations, and 21 deaths
- Nelson County: 210 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
- Patrick County: 524 cases, 66 hospitalizations, and 28 deaths
- Pittsylvania County: 1,968 cases, 111 hospitalizations, and 25 deaths
- Pulaski County: 856 cases, 50 hospitalizations, and 16 deaths
- Radford: 1,248 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
- Roanoke City: 4,338 cases, 132 hospitalizations, and 78 deaths
- Roanoke County: 3,212 cases, 71 hospitalizations, and 35 deaths
- Rockbridge County: 329 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
- Salem: 933 cases, 36 hospitalizations, and 23 deaths
- Wythe County: 847 cases, 48 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
Since Sunday, Dec. 6, VDH reported 61 new coronavirus cases in Pittsylvania County, 45 in Montgomery County, 44 in Lynchburg, 40 in Pulaski County, 34 in Danville, 32 in Henry County, 29 in Bedford County, 27 in Wythe County, 25 in Franklin County, 24 in Roanoke City, 21 in Carroll County, 17 in Grayson County, 15 in Giles County, 15 in Radford, 14 in Amherst County, 14 in Buena Vista, 11 in Campbell County, 11 in Martinsville, 10 in Bland County, nine in Galax, nine in Lexington, nine in Roanoke County, eight in Floyd County, seven in Covington, seven in Patrick County, six in Rockbridge County, five in Alleghany County, four in Bath County, three in Halifax County, three in Nelson County, two in Appomattox County, and two in Botetourt County.
In addition, of the eight new virus-related deaths reported on Monday, the department says four are from the localities listed above. More specifically, two are from Bedford County, one is from Campbell County, and one is from Lynchburg.
However, between Sunday and Monday, VDH reported one less case in Highland County.
Health officials say they have received 15,356 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Monday, which is 61 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Sunday.
Of these newly-reported hospitalizations from Monday, two are from Bedford County, two are from Carroll County, one is from Campbell County, one is from Franklin County, one is from Galax, one is from Grayson County, and one is from Lynchburg.
