5-year-old boy killed in crash with drunk driver, police say
HOUSTON – A 5-year-old boy died Sunday and his father was hospitalized after a major crash involving an intoxicated driver who tried to run away along the Highway 59, known as the Southwest Freeway in Houston.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. along the feeder road at Fountain View.
A BMW was northbound on the Southwest Freeway feeder road when it collided with a Nissan that was on Fountain View, according to Houston police.
The impact of the crash caused the Nissan to roll over, which was occupied by a man and his 5-year-old, who was restrained in a child safety seat in the back, police said.
Witnesses told authorities they stopped the driver of the BMW from taking off on foot after the crash, according to authorities. The BMW driver appeared to be intoxicated, police said. Charges are pending against the driver.
