One person hospitalized after a house fire on Bedford Avenue
Lynchburg, Virginia – Following a house fire in Lynchburg on Saturday night, one person is hospitalized.
The Lynchburg Fire Department (LPD) got a call about a house fire in the 1300 block of Bedford Avenue shortly after 7:15 p.m.
“The fire originated in the rear of the house. It looks like it was mostly on the exterior with some communication with the outside and moderate smoke conditions on the outside,” Shealy said.
According to Battalion Chief Charlie Shealy, firefighters arrived on the site and put out the fire quickly.
“Maybe four minutes, water was on the fire and the fire was under control. The fire was not getting any bigger. Since it was mostly on the exterior, we were able to access it pretty easily. Which then we went inside to make sure it was fully extinguished and that process takes a little longer,” Shealy said.
According to Shealy, the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after they managed to escape on their own. Before people can move back in, the house needs some work.
“It’s not an extensive amount of damage, but it’s enough to where it’s going to need some repair before it can be lived in,” Shealy said.
There is now an investigator investigating the cause of the fire, which has not yet been determined.
