Roanoke, Virginia – A local mission center has finished renovations. It was dedicated on Saturday in memory of three deceased locals.

Family Promise participants can feel comfortable at the Alexa House Mission Center.

It pays tribute to Rita Magnus, Daniel Yardley, and Alexa Cannon. Although the three died tragically, their memories today provide hope to people who are homeless.

“It made sense to me that this would be something that might aid in honoring [Alexa’s] memory,” said Cathy Cannon, Alexa Cannon’s mother.

Alexa is honored by the name of the residence. Her favorite color, blue, is used throughout the house, and she has adorned it with her favorite sayings and photos.

“This was one thing we really loved to do- to volunteer in the church,” continued Cathy. “Being here in this house and being able to support these folks . . . I think it’ll be just a little bit easier, for sure. Because it’s just beautiful. It’s so comfortable,” said Cathy.

Families participating in the Family Promise program can stay at the mission house for one week.
