Roanoke, Virginia – Evelyn Powers, Treasurer for the City of Roanoke, received her Master Governmental Treasurer recertification from the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia (TAV) and the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service.  The Certification Program is administered by the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service in partnership with the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia.

The standards necessary for certification are set by the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia. These standards are comprised of rigorous education requirements, including mandatory courses that are required to be taken with a final examination in order to obtain initial certification.

“Certification and recertification ensure that treasurers are constantly striving to attain the highest level possible of excellence in their professional careers,” said Treasurers’ Association President Carla de la Pava.

Recertification takes place over a four-year period. In order to obtain recertification, treasurers must acquire a minimum of 80 hours of continuing education. Credit for continuing education is earned by completing approved education courses and attending Treasurers’ Association-sponsored events and conferences.

“The constituency served by the treasurer and staff deserves a high level of professional competence,” said de la Pava. “We are proud of the treasurers in our Commonwealth who go the extra mile to receive certification each year by honing their skills and ensuring they are good stewards of the public funds entrusted to them.”
