City of Roanoke welcomes new sheriff

ROANOKE, Va. — Monday marked the first day on the job for the new sheriff in Roanoke.
Sheriff David K. Bell was appointed to take on the new role. Bell is replacing Sheriff Allen, who retired one year before his second term was up.
Sheriff Bell has been serving the city in various roles for almost 29 years. Over the last 11 years, he served as the Chief Deputy.
The Roanoke County Sheriff oversees the jails and courts for the city.
